Why $60 Is Not a Lot for Halloween Candy

I railed against buying three bags of candy for $60. “Do you know how silly this is?” I asked my husband as we checked out at Costco. “It’s a lot of money for candy!”

A bag of Kirkland Halloween candy (chocolate varieties) is said to weigh 5.6 pounds and contain about 150 pieces in each bag. We bought three bags and ended up with about ten pieces left over — because we had to eat some, don’t you know?

Here’s the thing: During that four-hour span, we tried to watch the original 1931 Frankenstein movie with Boris Karloff. Here’s a screenshot of that critical scene: “It’s alive.”

But we barely got through the one-hour and ten-minute movie because we had 312 tricker-treaters. What a hoot! We barely sat down when it was time to get up and open the door to goblins and ghosts of all sizes and shapes from one to eighty-one. TRICK or TREAT!

It’s easy to think Halloween is a senseless grab for free candy. And that $60 was a stupid amount of money to spend. However…
