How Much Time Do We Have?

We’re waiting for the music to begin. In this impressive silence we wait like happy ants listening to nature’s quiet murmurings, thirsty as they may be for attention we rarely grant them.

“How are we handling time?” the tree asked the wild daisy.

“I’m on borrowed time,” the wild daisy replied. “I live for a short while, never knowing where I came from or how long I have. It’s an anxious, dizzying guess. I might get trampled, plucked petal by petal for a human’s loves-me, loves-me-not insanity, or simply dry out and whither to a dirty grave. And it all happens so fast!”

“I may be bigger, but I never know either,” the tree said, stumped.

Hey, you two. Take heart. We don’t know either.
